PROBLEMS

Orphaned & Abandoned Child Hunger:

Single and poor mothers from the lowest income households in Bangladesh - are unable to feed their children - who are orphaned or abandoned by their father. These hungry orphaned and abandoned children are forced into bonded or hazardous child labour, working long hours. They DO NOT attend SCHOOL as they are forced to WORK due to HUNGER.

A quarter population in extreme poverty.
A third of children out of school.
1 child out of 33 die before 5th birthday - 4 times higher than US.
A third of all children’s growth stunted.

SOLUTIONS

Manik & Sefi Foundation’s Education Program feeds, shelters, clothes and educates abandoned & orphaned children (Zakat funded). Manik & Sefi Foundation provides food to single mother households who agree to send their children to school instead of to work. We work with JAAGO Foundation and government schools.

Manik & Sefi Foundation’s VEX Robotics, Coding & Building Computer Lab Program (Sadaka funded):

At Manik & Sefi Foundation, we believe in breaking the cycle of poverty through education. Manik & Sefi Foundation has donated 28 refurbished laptops, built a computer lab and taught coding to Korail Bostee school children. It has also donated 30 laptops to two schools in Ruposhdi Bhelanogor village of Bangladesh.

Manik & Sefi Foundation volunteers formed the JAAGO Robotics team with a dozen students & taught them how to build & program a VEX robot. Then they led the team to proudly represent Bangladesh as its first & only VEX robotics team at the 2023 World Championship in Texas.

Our volunteers first taught remotely through zoom lessons from the USA. Then they taught them in person by going to the JAAGO school in Korail slum.

It was a very challenging experience to teach in person at the school in Korail slum in the middle of COVID, in the extreme heat of Summer, and with very limited resources and space. It was also challenging to work with team members from the most marginalised community of Bangladesh. They belonged to the lowest income households of Bangladesh with parents who worked as maids, rickshaw pullers, day labourers, security guards and chauffeurs.

Our volunteers have a decade of experience in VEX robotics with many State, National and World Championship awards under their belt.
